Danube Day 2017 in Germany

Join us in celebrating rivers with a region-wide youth competition and events in Neuburg, Sigmaringen and Neu-Ulm. This years festivities focus on inspiring young people to look after the environment; working together for cleaner waters; and protecting the diverse wildlife that's sustained by our rivers.

"How would you help the Danube?" is the question put to young people in Bavaria's Danube Day. If you've got some great ideas and are aged between 6 and 16 years, you can enter the 2017 Art for the Danube - Danube Art Master competition. Present your message in a short video or riverside artwork that conveys how you'd like to see the Danube environment protected. Exciting class prizes include a one-day professional film workshop, a Degendorf river cruise and a visit to the Sankt Englmar treetop walkway. The winning German Art Masters will be announced at an awards ceremony at Schloss Grünau in Neuburg, where two winners will be selected to join a trip to Vienna for the international Danube Art Master final. See Bavaria's competition website and facebook for more info or download the poster.
Date of award ceremony: Thursday 27th July 2017.

Come along to festivities at the Sigmaringen Sewage Works in Baden-Württemberg to find out how good wastewater treatment is key to protecting the ecology of the Danube. You'll be invited to take a guided tour of the sewage plant and hear talks by the Environment Ministry and Tübingen regional council.
Date: Friday 7th July 2017; from 14:30 (tour from 15.30).

Young children are invited to Neu-Ulm City Library for an afternoon of art activities and reading of "Das Märzchen" by local author, Claudia König. The delightful story tells how a flower fairy befriends and helps a blackbird and was inspired by the "March", a Romanian tradition of welcoming in springtime. Organised by the Donaubüro, entrance is free for 5 to 10 year-olds and their parents. More information can be found on Donaubüro's website, facebook and twitter feed.
Date: Tuesday 27th June; 15:00 - 17:00.
