2004 Review
Danube Day 2004: A Bridge to the Future! More than 100 events across the basin fostered "Danube Solidarity" and ensured the first Danube Day was a day to remember.
The first Danube Day in history made a strong start with more then 100 individual events throughout the Danube River Basin. The celebration highlighted the 10th anniversary of the Danube River Protection Convention, signed on 29 June 1994 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The convention, the legal basis for the ICPDR, committed countries to work on improving water qualtiy for more than 80 million people. Danube Day marks this anniversary ever since 2004. Since then, Danube Day has grown from year to year until it was the biggest river festival of its kind in the World.
