Danube Day 2026 in Slovenia!

All United by Danube for Danube Day in Slovenia!

In June 2026, the Slovenian Environment Agency (ARSO) opened its doors to celebrate International Danube River Day with a special Open Day event.

More than 60 participants joined guided tours to discover how environmental experts monitor, understand, and predict environmental processes—and why protecting the Danube River Basin matters for Slovenia.

Exploring Environmental Expertise

Visitors gained behind-the-scenes insight into ARSO's daily work, with a special focus on hydrology and water management. Throughout the event, guests learned about critical activities that keep Slovenia's environment safe:

  • Hydrology & Water Monitoring – Discovering how key water parameters are measured and tracked across the Danube River Basin
  • Flood & Drought Assessment – Understanding how river levels are monitored to predict and prepare for water-related risks
  • Weather Forecasting – Learning about the science behind daily weather predictions
  • Biological Analysis – Exploring water quality and ecosystem health
  • Soil Sampling – Understanding soil composition and environmental impacts

A Focus on the Danube

Since most of Slovenia lies within the Danube River Basin, the event highlighted the vital importance of this transnational river system. By connecting ARSO's monitoring work directly to Danube protection, visitors gained a deeper appreciation for how national environmental agencies contribute to international river conservation.

Impact & Engagement

Participants left the event enriched with knowledge, inspired by ARSO's commitment to environmental stewardship, and carrying a symbolic reminder of the day—ICPDR tote bags—as they return home as ambassadors for river protection.

Thank you to everyone who participated and to ARSO for championing Danube Day in Slovenia!
